Rotating laser levels from entry-level horizontal-only through to the flagship Digital Dial-a-Grade. All IP66 rated for site work, every model pairs with a millimetre receiver on a staff for setting and checking levels.

For most concreting work a basic horizontal laser (BASIC614 or EL614) covers form heights and finished-level checks. If you’re setting a fall on a slab – wet-area drainage, polished-concrete finish requiring fall to a point, ramp grade – step up to a grade laser (EL614S onwards). The DGL1010GM is the flagship: dial in compound falls as a percentage on both axes.

01 · Formwork

Form height & pour datum

Set the formwork to a known datum, check every section before the pour, mark pour heights inside the form. One person, one staff, no calling out heights.

02 · Slab Falls

Slab fall to drain

Wet-area slabs and polished-concrete pours that fall to a floor waste. Single-grade laser for one-direction fall; dual-grade for slabs falling to a single point from multiple directions.

03 · Screed

Screed bed levels

Run the laser plane over the screed bed during prep – strike the bed to laser height before you set rails. Faster than dot-marking and more consistent across the whole pour area.

04 · Pad Grade

Pad grade for shed slabs

Set a fall across a shed slab so the floor sheds water. Or tilt the laser to match an existing crossfall before you pour.

How to choose a laser level for concreting


Start with the falls. If the job is flat, any model here holds a level plane all day – the grade models earn their step-up the day a slab has to fall to a point.

Flat slabs, form heights, finished levels

A horizontal-only rotating laser covers it – the BASIC614 or EL614. Set the datum, read the receiver on the staff, done.

Falls in one direction – wet areas, ramps, strip drains

Single grade. The EL614S sets the fall via slope remote; the EL614GM adds Auto Grade Match – put the receiver where the fall should finish, press one button, the laser tilts itself to match.

Falls to a single point from multiple directions – car parks, hardstands

Dual grade. The EGL624 and EGL624GM run grade on both axes at once. Most slab work is single grade – step up when the job falls two ways.

Compound falls dialled in as a percentage

The DGL1010GM is the flagship: type a percentage into the keypad or remote and the laser tilts itself to that exact slope – Digital Dial-a-Grade to ±10.000% on both axes.

Concreting Laser Questions


Do I need a grade laser, or just a horizontal one?

If your work is mostly flat slabs, formwork checks and finished-level work, a horizontal-only rotating laser like the BASIC614 or EL614 covers it. If you regularly set falls on slabs (wet areas, polished concrete to a drain, ramp grade) you need a grade laser – start at the EL614S and step up from there.

Single grade or dual grade for slabs?

Single grade for one-direction falls (a slab falling east-to-west to a strip drain, for example). Dual grade for slabs falling to a single floor waste from multiple directions, or compound falls on car parks and hardstands. Most slab work is single grade.

How does Auto Grade Match help on a concrete pour?

Set the receiver where you want the laser to come to (target slab edge height, or floor-waste depth), press Auto Grade Match, the laser tilts itself to match. What’s Digital Dial-a-Grade?

Type a percentage into the laser keypad or remote – the laser tilts itself to that exact slope. The DGL1010GM is the only RedBack rotating laser with this feature. Faster than calculating a fall and dialling it in manually.

Are these lasers IP-rated for concrete dust and rain?

All RedBack rotating lasers are IP66 – protected against dust ingress and heavy water spray. They handle a wash-down at end of day and won’t fail mid-pour from a passing shower.

Do I need a green-beam or red-beam laser?

Outdoor work like concreting is read with a millimetre receiver, not your eyes – so beam colour doesn’t matter for visibility. Stick with red unless you specifically need a green beam for line-of-sight work indoors as well.

Which laser level is best for concreting?

For flat slab work – form heights, screed levels, finished-level checks – the BASIC614 or EL614 covers it. If you set falls on slabs, step up to a grade model: the EL614S for one-direction falls, the EGL624 or EGL624GM for dual grade, and the DGL1010GM if you want compound falls dialled in as a percentage. How do you use a laser level on a concrete slab?

Set the laser on a tripod clear of the pour area and let it self-level. Take the receiver on a staff and set your datum off the survey peg or a known height – from there every reading comes off the same plane. Set form heights, strike the screed bed to laser height before you set rails, and mid-pour walk the receiver over the surface to catch high and low spots before the concrete sets. Can you use a laser level to level the ground before a pour?

Yes – pad prep is the same method as slab checks: benchmark off your datum and read the staff as you work. Set a fall across the pad so the floor sheds water, or tilt the laser to match an existing crossfall before you pour. Running a skid steer or excavator on slab prep? Pair the laser with a machine receiver like the MR706 so the operator reads level from the seat.
