Founded in 2003 as CMI Lasers, Tim and Grant began distributing trusted rotary laser models like the MRL500, ARL510, and PRO800 through some of Australia’s biggest tool shops.
By around 2010, the RedBack Lasers brand was born — an unmistakably Aussie name built on one simple idea: deliver high-quality, trade-ready laser levels without the inflated price tags of overseas brands.
A few years later came Level1 Lasers, created for the DIY legends and weekend warriors who might not use a laser every day but still want professional accuracy when they do.
With backgrounds in agriculture and trade, Tim understood the demands of real-world job sites, while Grant brought the technical know-how and after-sales support that customers could actually count on. Together they built a business focused on reliability, service, and innovation.
RedBack has continued to push Australian laser-level technology forward — from pioneering Pulsating Line Lasers like the CXR440 & CXR880 (making line lasers usable outdoors), to being one of the first local suppliers to focus on Auto-Grade, Auto-Align, and Auto-Tracking systems. These technologies opened up new ways for tradies to work faster and more accurately.
Our custom-developed Fencing Laser solution is another homegrown innovation — designed specifically for fencing contractors and farmers who need to align long fence runs as a true one-person operation.
