Where a laser earns its keep on electrical work – most of these are jobs you’d otherwise mark with a tape and chalk line, or do twice with a plumb bob.
Set the laser at GPO height, walk every outlet on the wall to the line. Same for switches at switch height. One person, no chalk line, every plate hits the same level.
Square multi-line laser sets the row and column lines for a downlight grid in one set-up. Mark the intersections, drill the cans, every light hits the right spot.
Plumb-dot laser shoots up and down. Mark the floor where the GPO or downlight needs to land, place the laser there, the ceiling mark appears directly above. Solo, accurate, no plumb bob.
Frame the switchboard plumb and level before the boards go in. Vertical line plumbs the rails, horizontal line sets the top and bottom edges square to the wall.
Long horizontal line sets a conduit run dead level around the room or down the wall. No re-measuring at every fixing point.

Any cross-line laser handles it – set the laser at the height and walk the wall. The budget UNG6001 gives you Class 3 green brightness at a cross-line price; for daily use step up to the CX610G.
Pick a model that rotates around its plumb axis with vertical lines at 90° to each other – the CX610G, UNG641 or budget UNL59. Set the row and column lines in one set-up and mark the intersections.
A 3D laser projects 3 x 360° lines for complete coverage. The Green3DMAX is the trade pick; the UNG6631 and UNG6631B run their horizontal line 8mm above the floor for easy tape checks.
That is dot laser work. The D272G shoots bright green plumb dots above and below – sit it on the floor mark and the ceiling mark appears directly above. The D273G adds a horizontal dot for levels.
The XLG44 runs servo-electronic self-levelling rated +/-1mm @ 10m – tighter than the pendulum models – with 9 German OSRAM diodes for maximum brightness.
Long outdoor work is rotating laser territory, and setting falls is a job for the grade laser range. For occasional outdoor line work, pair any pulse-mode line laser on this page with the LLR705 receiver.

Every day. A multi-line laser sets GPO and switch heights along a wall run, lays out downlight grids, plumbs switchboard frames and keeps conduit runs dead level – jobs you’d otherwise mark with a tape and chalk line. A plumb-dot laser transfers floor marks to the ceiling without a plumb bob or a second person. Most of it is solo work.
It depends on what work you do most. For daily fit-out, a Class 3 green multi-line laser like the CX610G or Green3DMAX gives you bright, sharp lines for GPO heights, downlight grids and switchboard layout. For transferring exact points from floor to ceiling, the D272G 2-way plumb dot laser is the standout tool. Occasional jobs are covered by the budget cross-line range on this page.

Green wins in bright conditions. RedBack’s Class 3 green models run up to 5× brighter than standard Class 2 lasers – in a well-lit room or a glass-heavy fit-out the difference is night and day. The budget red Class 2 models like the L203 and UN671D still do the job for occasional work in average lighting – that’s why they cost less.
Indoors is where line lasers live, but with pulse mode and an optional receiver they work outside too. The LLR705 receiver detects red and green line lasers where the beam isn’t visible by eye, and the LLR805MM adds a 50mm millimetre display for precision. For all-day outdoor work over longer distances, step up to a rotating laser – and for falls and drainage, a grade laser.
Yes – laser class is about output power. Class 2 lasers are capped at less than 1mW; Class 3 laser levels go up to 5mW, which makes them up to 5× brighter. In a well-lit room that’s the difference between squinting for the line and reading it at a glance. FFranz Franz6 months agoCustomer service was above and beyond. Product has met and beaten expectations. They were sold out of the package deal I wanted but contacted me directly when stock came in to offer it without waiting for it to go online. Had the laser over two weeks now and it's light beam is brighter than my mates DeWalt and the receiver works at a longer distance. Another cool feature is that the batteries have a USB C port on them for charging with USB C cable instead of needing another charger. Was dubious about them being cheaper than others on the market but I honestly can't fault it. Carry box also feels strong and sturdy.
