A line laser spreads its power across the full beam. A dot concentrates all of it in one point — making it far brighter and more readable at distance, especially indoors.
The 2-way plumb dot shoots a reference point directly up and down. Electricians and plumbers transfer floor points to ceiling without a second person. Accurate, repeatable, fast.
Self-levelling. No strings, no plumb bobs, no waiting. Place it, let it settle, read the dot. For internal fit-out work it’s the fastest reference tool on site.
Physically small. Magnetic base attaches directly to steel studs. Compatible with ¼” and ⅝” tripods. Goes anywhere on site without taking up room in the ute.
Rubberised housing. Pendulum lock protects calibration during transport. Built to live in a tradie’s bag without falling apart after 6 months.
The 3-dot model shoots plumb up, plumb down, and a horizontal reference — giving you multiple alignment points without moving the laser.
Anyone can sell a dot laser. Few back it properly.
Most brands sell Class 2 dot lasers (<1mW). RedBack’s Class 3 models go up to 5mW — up to 5× more powerful. In real lighting conditions, the difference is night and day.
Rubberised housing. Solid construction. If something goes wrong, RedBack has in-house repair capability and service agents in QLD, SA & WA.
Automatic. No annual calibration requirement. No blame-shifting. If there’s a genuine fault, we sort it — no questions, no runaround.
A dot laser level projects one or more precise laser dots rather than a continuous beam. The most common use is transferring a reference point from floor to ceiling (or vice versa) — essential for electricians, plumbers and tilers working across levels.
A line laser projects a continuous beam across a surface — useful for level and plumb reference over distance. A dot laser projects a precise point — useful for transferring a single reference location with maximum brightness. Many tradies carry both.
Laser class is about output power. Class 2 lasers are capped at less than 1mW. Class 3 lasers go up to 5mW — that’s up to 5× more powerful. In a well-lit room or on a bright site, a Class 3 dot is dramatically more visible. Most competitors sell Class 2. RedBack’s D272G and D273G lead with Class 3.
For most electrical fit-out work, the D272G 2-way plumb laser is the right tool. It shoots a dot up and down, letting one person transfer floor points to ceiling without help. If you need horizontal references too, step up to the D273G 3-dot model.
Dot lasers are designed primarily for interior use. In full sunlight, even a Class 3 dot is difficult to see without a detector. For outdoor point transfer in shaded or overcast conditions, Class 3 gives you a real advantage over Class 2 alternatives.
No. RedBack warranties are automatic — no calibration hoops to jump through. Our Class 3 models (D272G and D273G) are covered for 2 years; the entry-level PLUMB1 for 12 months. If there’s a genuine fault, contact us and we’ll sort it.
